From the factory, various model series have been produced with fiberglass (GFK) roofs as standard since the 2013 model year. Starting from the 2009 model year, a GFK roof could be configured as an optional feature. Until that time, aluminum flat sheets were used. GFK is an extremely robust and resilient fiber-reinforced plastic composite made of epoxy resin and polyamide. The advantages of the material lie in its high impact resistance, even under strong force. A GFK structure refers to the outer material of sandwich panels for caravan/motorhome cabins (glass fiber reinforced plastic) for walls, floors, and roofs. The maximum roof load for motorhomes is 90 kg for the entire roof area.
Tip:
When loading or retrofitting the roof, care should be taken to avoid point loads. This could lead to dents on the roof. Therefore, the roof should be regularly cleared of snow in appropriate weather conditions. Last but not least, when removing large amounts of snow, a disadvantageous, permanent water pressure is created on the roof openings, which promotes the formation of leaks. The maximum roof load for motorhomes is 90 kg for the entire roof area.
