If you wish to have additional seats retrofitted to your own motorhome, you must observe the following points, which your contract or service partner will be happy to check in advance:
Is it technically possible to retrofit one or more seats?
The feasibility of this must be clarified with the manufacturer. If the necessary parts are available and can be installed subsequently, it must be further checked whether the load of the vehicle is to be increased. Depending on the extent of the equipment of the vehicle, it may be necessary to increase the load because the increased number of seats increases the standard weight relevant for registration. This must not exceed the permissible total weight of the vehicle!
Once these points have been clarified, the vehicle must be presented to a recognised technical inspection organisation after completion of retrofitting, which can only be carried out by the manufacturer. The following documents are essential for this:
- Clearance certificate of the manufacturer
- Inspection report
- Retrofitting work instruction
In this way, the respective test engineer can make sure that all work has been carried out according to specifications and he can cross-check this on the vehicle.
