If you want to get off to a flying start on your holiday with your caravan, you should get a 100 km/h registration for your vehicle-trailer combination. With it, you are allowed to rush along the motorway and motorways at up to 100 km/h instead of the usual 80 km/h.
In principle, the speed limit for car and caravan combinations is 80 km/h. If you want to drive faster with a trailer, you can have it inspected at any authorised inspection centre (TÜV, Dekra). With this confirmation, you will receive the required speed 100 sticker from your registration authority.
This 100 km/h speed limit may apply to:
- Car and
- other multi-track motor vehicles (e.g. motorhomes) with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 t
The technical requirements are:
- Existing AKS (stabiliser coupling)
- Your car is equipped with ABS
- The trailer has been designed for a maximum speed of 100 km/h
- The trailer tyres are designed for 120 km/h and have at least the speed index L
- The tyres are less than six years old
In addition, certain mass ratios between trailer and towing vehicle must be observed. Calculating the legally permissible total mass of the trailer is a bit complicated. If this legal regulation seems a bit complicated to you, raise this with your inspection authority (TÜV, Dekra). You will certainly be advised there.
In the download area you will find the confirmations of the chassis manufacturers Al-Ko and BPW, which show that all components are designed for a 100 km/h registration.
